Our Mission, Values, and Legacy of Advocacy

Our Mission

To provide help, hope and healing to those affected by sexual violence and cultivate a safe, nonviolent community.

Our Vision

A world free from sexual violence—an equitable, safe community where individuals live free from fear, threats, and harassment.

Core Values

  • Empowerment: We trust and validate survivors' voices, restoring control and supporting independent recovery choices.
  • Inclusivity: Supporting survivors of all ages, gender identities, sexual orientations, and socio-economic standings.
  • Collaboration: Standing together with local medical, legal, and community partners to form a seamless safety net.
  • Integrity: Holding ourselves accountable to the highest ethical and professional clinical standards.

Our History

1974

Humble Beginnings

Founded as a volunteer-run crisis telephone hotline operating out of a local residence in San Antonio, answering the community's call to support survivors.

1985

First Dedicated Office

Expanded to hire full-time advocacy coordinators and set up a physical office to offer walk-in crisis services and counseling coordination.

2006

Clinical Service Expansion

Established a dedicated, professional clinical team to provide specialized trauma-informed counseling for survivors and families at no cost.

Today

A Thriving Safety Net

The Rape Crisis Center now serves thousands of individuals annually, maintaining a 24-Hour Hotline, clinical counseling, advocacy accompaniment, and Bexar County SART collaborations.
